INTRODUCING BREWED KOREAN RICE WINE
Korean alcohol is called sool. The most famous types of sool are soju, a clear liquor, and makgeolli, a cloudy rice wine. Many sool makers call themselves “brewers” and their creations “brews”, even though some of the aspects of the process and final products resemble wine.
You can call us a brewery and a winery. We’re a little bit of both and totally our own thing.
“It’s raining – let’s drink makgeolli!”
Koreans love to drink makgeolli on rainy days. Maybe it’s the allure of delicious food paired with a refreshing drink on a gloomy day, or the bubbles and pops of fermentation that recalls raindrops hitting a puddle. “Rainbrew” honors this association and our home, the Rain City.
TAKJU
Our launch product is the perfect introduction to traditional makgeolli: a balance of tart and sweet with notes of Korean melon and a rich mouthfeel. Best enjoyed cold and gently shaken. Read more on our products page.

REPRESENTING A TRADITIONAL ART FORM
The story of sool is the story of Korea.
For hundreds of years, families in Korea have come together to brew and enjoy naturally fermented beverages that they called sool. The tumults of the 20th century (war and occupation, crop shortages, rapid industrialization) fundamentally changed the nature of sool and many of the old recipes and techniques were lost. Now, both in Korea and abroad, these traditions are being recognized, restored, and reinvigorated for a new generation.
We are proud to represent authentic, artisanal sool in the Pacific Northwest.
